If you have been following the blog for a while you might remember a post a month or so ago on a topic which I found intriguing more for its timing than its content or accusations.  Right at the height of the Gulf Oil spill (remember that? – it feels sooo long ago) a lead opponent of Big Oil, Fat Al Gore, found himself embroiled and diverted from the task of taking the big boys head on by an aging masseuse in Portland waving a pair of soiled trousers.

Here in Europe, we are denied entry to the National Enquirer’s web site, so many of you will have been unable to access pictures of the woman at the centre of the story.  Purely, you understand, to better draw ones conclusions on the likelihood of this tale.  I am pleased, therefore, to assist by including a copy of the cover below.

If it was true, then Al Gore is a desperate, desperate man.  That or his seeing eye dog needs kicked.

She had accused the bold boy of having come on to her during a three hour massage, and that she needed to escape fleeing into the night clutching only the tools of her trade, several bottles of oils etc, a table, some linen sheets and a pair of soiled trousers.  Oh, and it was all way back in 2006.

However, after the National Enquirer raised this public interest issue the matter was investigated.  Again.  The evidence solely being the woman in the picture and, um, a plastic bag with some clothes in it.  Right.

Caleb Hannan in his excellent blog at http://blogs.seattleweekly.com ,wittily tried to contact the good lady for a comment but could only get a copy mail from her to a friend which reads as follows:-“I cannot talk to you now or anyone but will when I’m allowed by advisors to so” she wrote “Thank you so much for your help, my friend, you have the courage of ten lions”.  So, as he says, nothing weird about her then.

And after a four week investigation interviewing Fat Al himself; the aging masseuse – sorry the report clearly calls her a “therapeutic massage therapist”; her “acquaintances” (how delicately put); and hotel staff, as well as examining the stained pants, the DA said there was no basis for investigation. Al Gore was now cleared of any allegations.

Phew, that was a close one eh?

Funny that, just at the time that oil business was blowing over.
