At least that was the opinion of David Brooks this morning on the influential BBC Radio 4 “Today” programme.

David Brooks the Canadian born, United States columnist and author of “Social Animal” was in town fresh from his article in the New York Times,  to argue with Peter Osborn as to whether the United States political world was dysfunctional and obsessed with abstract arguments, whilst British Politics was dealing with balancing budgets, and implementing those essential spending cuts.

Brooks held to his view that America had become seduced by the elites, (or as I term them the oligarchs), and politics in the United States was tribal, rigid and ossified.
