Well, now we have the result, and the truth that Mitt Romney was not the best candidate for the Republican party.  Doubtless now in the media, and behind their closed doors much soul searching will go into why it just didn’t happen for Romney.

Here is my most likely reason.  In almost every election the parties insist on choosing not their best candidate but their most oligarchical.  These privileged scions of the old ruling families still thrust their progeny out onto the Presidential race.  Romney simply was the most oligarchical they could deliver this time round.  Being a failure from the last time he stood for President did not in any way seem to discourage the selectors, being the son of a Governor and former Presidential hopeful and having family political connections counted far more than being capable, confident and popular.
