Surprised? Well I certainly was. This is only one of a lovely series of results maps showing how the 2012 election results would have looked if we had been playing by previous rules. In this case before the 15th Amendment of 1850 and with only white males over 21 voting.
You just have to wander through the rest at Buzzfeed.

Yes, yes very interesting. Strangely most of those states voting Republican; appear to mostly occupy the geographic centre, in 2012? The other snapshots taken, show that Washington state and Oregon, have always gone Democrat; at those points. Along with Maine, Vermont and Massachusetts. When only 2 parties are involved, it’s hard to see how the notion of it being a democracy, can be justified? To someone in Canada, the elections for president. Usually seem a choice, only between Fric or Frac? I imagine the Chicago mob, is overjoyed at a second term?
Not that I see Canada. As a shining beacon of hope, either. Clearly controlled by “The Fed”. Although our central bank is set-up differently. Once the puppet is in place, it works quite well for them.
If the Republicans really wanted to hang onto power or dominate those elections? Then they would be working hard on reducing “global warming” and encouraging a “back to the land” program? Which would boost population and the number of electoral votes available? The way I understand it? Which is rudimentary. … Cheers!
