Simplicity is all. The wonderful minimalist representation above of all you need to know about the United States, is by Joseph Kosuth drawn at the request of Hisachika Takahasi who gathered together a set of sketches and drawings by 22 contemporary New York artists back in 1971 and 1972.
Now SeanKelly a contemporary art gallery at 475 Tenth Avenue New York has gathered these together for an exhibition that runs from September 13 through to October the 19th.
Kosuth’s is just my favourite, confirming my belief that New Yorkers have no sense of the outside world as its meant to revolve round them! But do look out for the guy who seems to have thought the project was a geography test.

As for New Yorkers view of the rest of the world David, I refer you to the famous New Yorker magazine cover by Saul Steinberg. It was one of their most famous covers.
I can’t paste it in, but you can find it here:

You are right its wonderful! It is one the things I like so much about American graphic artists is their ability to constantly rework maps to give a new slant on contemporary life.
