Whilst we watch the unfolding events in Eastern Europe, the show, as always, cannot be complete without Punch turning up to keep us children in stitches. And out he pops yesterday.
“You just do not, in the 21st century, behave in 19th century fashion by invading another country on completely trumped up pre-text,” Kerry told an American broadcaster on CBS.
All of which would sound more reassuring if one did not have any knowledge of American interventions without proper grounds since World War II.
So has Kerry so quickly forgotten Iraq and the war against non existent “Weapons of Mass Destruction” then? Probably – or at least he hopes you have. But it doesn’t just mean that. Oh no. Sadly there is rarely a year or two since 1945 when the United States has not seem fit to foist its military interventions on other nations.
Here is a short list of US Interventions since World War II which were on completely trumped up pretexts. None of these “interventions” achieved much, either at the time, or in the long run. Oh, if I’ve forgotten any, doubtless you will all tell me.
And if he thinks boycotting an International Conference is going to influence anyone he’s not of this world.
